Everywhere you look people are getting axed and the excuse is A.I. The video below may be entertaining, but the actual situation isn’t. Oracle laying off 30,000 employees via a 6:00 AM EST email last Wednesday is a reminder that corporate "efficiency" can be cut throat. I get it. Oracle has 180,000 employees worldwide. The optics are bad for a company that saw its stock drop over 50% from its 2025 peak of $346 down to the present $140’s. Now, the pressure is on for Oracle and the rest of the employees left to perform. FYI: When these things happen, rarely do people acknowledge the added stress on those who didn’t get let go and now have to meet higher expectations.

This trading people for AI infrastructure mantra is similar to what Block did in January. Block CEO, Jack Dorsey slashed 40% of his staff with the goal of having all 6,000 remaining employees report directly to him.

It is officially "show and prove" time for these tech companies who claim AI can replace employees and restore margins.
