The company reported earnings better than expected, but it wasn't the cars instead, the gigantic spending on artificial intelligence and robotics took center stage on Wall Street.

📈 Numbers Better Than Forecasts

  • Revenue: $22.39 billion USD (expected $22.08 billion USD, +16% y/y).

  • Earnings Per Share (EPS): $0.41 USD (versus estimates of $0.35 USD).
    Gross Margin: 21.7% (significantly higher than the forecasted 17.7%).

The surprise? Tesla recorded positive Free Cash Flow in Q1 at $1.44 billion USD. FCF is key for a capital intensive company.

💸 Massive Spending (CapEx) and All-In on AI.
In 2026, Tesla will spend over $25 billion (versus $9 billion in 2025). This stems from huge investments in AI computing power, new batteries, Cybercabs, and its own chip project.

🚕 Robotaxi Picks Up Speed
The Robotaxi service expanded to Dallas and Houston, joining Austin and the San Francisco Bay Area. The number of miles driven in this mode nearly doubled quarter-over-quarter. By year-end, the service is set to launch in a dozen-plus states.

🦾 Optimus Robotics: According to Musk, Optimus robots “will revolutionize the economy.”Tesla plans to soon begin preparations for mass production in Fremont (up to a million robots annually), and in Texas, it aims to produce as many as 10 million per year.

🔋 Shining Energy Segment
With car sales facing competitive pressure (up 6.3% y/y), the energy storage segment remains the growth area. Demand for large-scale installations continues to grow, stabilizing power grids worldwide.
